Miley Cyrus considers going the route of Madonna, Prince and Beyoncé by ‘dropping the Cyrus’
MTV has been criticized by the Parents Television Council for Miley Cyrus' sexy performance at the VMAs.
What’s in a name? A lot, according to Miley Cyrus. In an interview done before her infamous MTV Video Music Awards performance last week, the 20-year-old singer told Notion magazine that she was considering dropping her last name and going by just Miley.
“I was thinking about dropping the Cyrus and just being Miley but there’s something powerful about the fact that my name now is like a household name,” the former Hannah Montana actress said.
“People have this misconception of me that I’m just one of these kids on TV and that now I go off and party and I’m just this ratchet white girl, and I’m not.”
Cyrus, whose song Can’t be Tamed debuted at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200, continued: “I work really, really hard, I’m just in a different environment. I’m young and living in L.A., which is everyone’s dream, you know? I’m living it to the fullest. Rather than taking a blessing and making it a curse, it’s just like this is what this name is now.”
Cyrus raised eyebrows at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25 when she performed with Robin Thicke, singing a medley of Can’t be Tamed his summer hit Blurred Lines. Dressed in a nude-coloured latex bikini and with her tongue frequently hanging out, she twerked and gyrated against the 36-year-old married singer and pointed a large foam hand at both his crotch and hers.
