Russia's Valeriya hates being called the Russian Madonna
The Russian singer doesn't want to be
compared to the iconic US star because she's too raunchy
She is known as the Russian Madonna and has sold 100 million albums worldwide.
But now mum-of-six Valeriya says she’s too embarrassed to be linked to the Material Girl. Ouch!
She said: “They call me Russian Madonna but I always think twice when I do something on stage because I have my children - and I don’t want them to be ashamed of me.
“Of course female singers should be sexy but you don’t have to cross the line. I do not accept it.”
And just in case the Express Yourself singer hadn’t got the message, the Russian bombshell - who was a coach on The Voice in Ukraine - added: “We’re different in every single way. Do I want to draw a line under those comparisons? Yes.”
While we might not have heard of her in the UK, global star Valeriya, real name Alla Yurievna Perfilova, has a phonebook full of famous fans including Simply Red, who she once toured with.
She also worked with the Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb on one of his last ever songs - recording duet Broken Wings just six months before his death from cancer aged 62 in 2012.
he track has never been heard by Bee Gees’ fans as he passed away before it was released.
But Valeriya is hoping to sing it as a tribute to him during her show at The Royal Albert Hall on October 21.
“It would be nice, but emotional, to perform it,’ she said. “But if I did I might sing as a solo - I could never get anyone to replace Robin.”
