The singles "Don't Tell Me" and "What It Feels Like For A Girl" both reached top ten around the world. "Music" secured Madonna the 2001 Brit Award for International Female - the first time she had won the trophy. GHV2 - Madonna

ALBUM INFO

TYPE: compilation
FORMAT: CD
LABEL: Warner Bros.
RELEASE DATE: 13 November 2001
RELEASE COUNTRY: WW

Additional Info:

Madonna's second greatest hits album condensed her 1992-2001 career into a tidy little 15-song package. While no new songs are included, nine of the tracks hit the U.S. top ten, and all but one were U.K. top tens. (The lone dissenter was "Take A Bow," which hit No. 16 in the U.K., but was her biggest hit in the U.S., spending seven weeks at No. 1.) To launch the album (which hit No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 2 in the U.K.) special mega-mixes of the "GHV2" hits were created for radio and dance clubs. The tracks -- remixed by Thunderpuss, Tracy Young and Johnny Rocks and Mac Quayle -- were a hit in dance clubs.

Additional Info:

To this day, "The Immaculate Collection" remains Madonna's biggest selling album worldwide, with over 10 million sold in the U.S. and another 12 million outside America. Spanning 1983 through 1990, the set collects 15 of Madonna's biggest singles, along with two new tracks: "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me." In fact, Madonna had so many hits during the '80s, there simply was not enough room on the album for all of her big singles. Even top five singles like "Dress You Up" and "Who's That Girl" couldn't be squeezed onto the set. "Justify My Love," a collaboration with Lenny Kravitz, hit No. 1 in the U.S. and went top ten just about everywhere else. "Rescue Me" was the follow-up, and at the time became her highest-debuting U.S. single, opening at No. 15 on The Billboard Hot 100. It would go on to peak at No. 9 in the U.S. and achieve top ten rankings throughout the world. "The Immaculate Collection" spent two weeks at No. 2 in the U.S. and nine weeks atop the U.K. charts - her longest run at No. 1 in that country.

The lone new track on the album was "Spotlight," which climbed to No. 32 on Billboard's airplay charts - though it was never released as a commercial single in the U.S. The album sold well, considering its then-new concept, and has moved an estimated five million units worldwide.
